Too lazy to sift through all the reviews? Here are my Quick Picks (aka the top venues in each category): Looking for a decent selection of draft and a nice spot to catch the game with friends? Witch's Tavern provides an interesting fusion between English pub and Thai culture...with a splash of Hallowe'en. In addition to having a standard pub menu the cocktail list here isn't bad and the band is more than enjoyable.
The clear winner here is To Die For in the H1 complex on Thonglor. In addition to having a great and interesting food menu, the cocktail selection is top notch. The outside garden often requires reservations so plan in advance. This is the best place around for a few pre-partying drinks and snacks.
Without question the king of clubbing in the area used to be Santika. Since the tragedy that occurred early morning of January 1, 2009 the fan base has spread itself out among RCA, Sukhumvit, Ratchada and other venues around the ET zone. A new king has yet to emerge but I see Escobar has now heeded my advice and changed from purely house music to hip hop. While it's a long way from what Santika used to be at least it doesn't have a live Thai band incessantly belting out tunes and the second floor has plenty of room to dance once the staff fill the real dance floor below with tables for the Johnnie bottle crowd that spills over from Nang Len.
If you're looking for a real wild night why not combine all 3 venues starting at Witch's Tavern around 8 and moving on to To Die For at 10 and then Escobar at 12. Lemme know if you've pulled off a Triple Bypass by leaving your story below. |
